FRIENDS OF ANIMALS (FOA) is an initiative by Thangam Memorial Trust, devoted to the cause of allievating animal suffering. The trust was opened in 2007 in Tirupur by Asha Krishnakumar in the name of her mother who has been the inspiration for starting this. The shelter works together with national and international veterinarians and volunteers, who come here to share their love and care for the dogs in the shelter. Aims of FOA include:
- Finding homes for abandoned dogs
- Mass sterilization of stray animals
- Provide medical care for pet- and stray animals
- Raise awareness
Our shelter houses about 300 homeless dogs and we provide them food, shelter, medication. Our caregivers take utmost concern in looking after the abandoned animals which may be old, disabled or young puppies
This organization started with caring for stray animals, nowadays it also includes a clinic for pets. Dog, cat, goat, cow.. all animals are welcome here. We treat around 50 cases each day. The veterinary services are provided by well-trained veterinarians at a low cost. We not only provide treatments and operations for ill animals but also help prevention in the form of vaccination and deworming.
The opening times are from 9.00-14.00 and from 16.30-20.00. Sunday afternoon the clinic is closed.
The Costs are as follows:
Castration Male 750 RS
Sterilisation Female 1000 RS
Vaccination 50 RS
The objective of this program is to eliminate rabies in the area and to control the dog population. Homeless street dogs are sterilized and given anti-rabies injections before they are returned to their original territories. A female on average delivers 2 times a year with around 6 puppies each time. Approximately 250 dogs are sterilized a year in the ABC programme.
Children are the adults of tomorrow. If tomorrow, we want a world in which animals are cared for we need to start today by educating our children. Friends of animals makes a difference by making school children aware of first aid and beiing a friend for animals! We enable them to practice and learn about the basics of animal handling in a playfull matter.
Volunteering at FOA is a great way to make a difference. We at FOA need many helping hands, You can be one of them! To be a volunteer all you need is time, dedication and love.
The shelter is a permanent home for disabled dogs. They need special care and medical attention, which is given by the well trained staff of the shelter. If you do not have place in your home, you can still make room in your heart by supporting an animal in the shelter. This will enable the shelter to provide refuge and comfort to many more needy animas. Pick an animal of your choice and contribute towards its monthly upkeep. You can visit the shelter and choose your pet, or choose a friend on this website. Please click here to choose your pet.
